Hinged Dutch hall marked silver - for at least 0.833 purity. No date letter, no assay office mark. Single sword mark for 1814-1905. With additional key mark from 1853 to indicate a piece made for export. Double layer of card stapled to inside of both upper and lower covers. The lower cover card retains original fragment of marbled paper. Rounded corners. Spine with seven horizontal etched bands and hallmark at the foot. Covers with separately designed central putti, trees in the background, within elaborate repoussé borders in roccocco style. Original marked silver clasp and latch. 'XII' hand-scored on inside surfaces. 51 x 49 x 17 mm. A highly unusual item.
